riverfront holeshot challenge

Alright Riverfront Racers — are you ready for something brand new at this year’s Riverfront Grand Prix? We’re turning up the lights, cranking up the energy, and kicking off the first-ever Riverfront Holeshot Challenge! 🔥

Here’s how it works: two riders at a time will line up side-by-side on the start for a short, all-out sprint down the straightaway. When that flat comes up — it’s go time! It all comes down to reaction, traction, clutch control, throttle, and nerves of steel. First one to cross the finish line takes the win and moves on to the next round.

This is a head-to-head, single elimination bracket — winner advances, loser’s out — until we crown our first Riverfront Holeshot Champion! 🏆

The best part?

It’s open to everyone! Whether you’re a seasoned racer or just want to test your launch against your buddies, jump in — Thanks to the sponsors below entry is free!  Competition brackets are set by random draw. It’s all about bragging rights, fun, and seeing who’s got the quickest hands off the line.

So as the sun goes down and those lights come on, grab your friends, line up your bikes, and get ready for some high-speed, full-throttle action. Let’s make history tonight with the very first Riverfront Grand Prix Holeshot Challenge!

Let’s hear it for the riders — and let’s find out who’s got the fastest start at Riverfront!

What is it?

According to ChatGPT,  Holeshot challenges are crowd favorites at motocross or supercross events — they’re loud, fast, and over in seconds. Often held at night under lights with music or commentary, they’re meant to showcase raw power and rider skill in a short burst of action.

  • No starting gate, this is a XC style start!  Dead engine, flag placed on the ground, when it waives you start and go!  Just like an XC race start!
  • The surface is natural grass and dirt, with a light roto-tilling of the turn.
  • First one to break the AJAX banner is the winner of the round!
  • Final two riders will compete in a best of 3 to crown the champion!

Challenge Format

  • Staging: Riders roll up to the start under lights, line up and kill their engines.

  • Start Signal: A green flag waive starts the race.

  • Launch: Riders explode off the line — it’s all about who reacts fastest, shifts cleanly, and keeps the front wheel down while maintaining traction.

  • Finish: The first rider to cross the finish line banner wins that round and moves to the next.

  • Bracket Style: The event will run on a tournament format — winners advance through rounds until only one remains, the Holeshot Champion.

Key Elements

  • Reaction Time: Quickest clutch release and throttle response matter most.
  • Bike Control: Too much throttle can lift the front wheel; too little loses drive.
  • Traction: Picking the right line, right tire and managing wheel spin is critical.
  • Consistency: Rounds happen back-to-back, so riders must stay sharp.
  • Competition:  Everyone must use kick start, if we have entries that do not have a kick start option, we will ensure they are head to head with other e-start machines.

10 simple RULES

  1. Free entry – open to all riders with a dirt bike (no ATVs or pit bikes).
  2. Head-to-head format: two riders race side-by-side
  3. Random bracket draw determines matchups — single elimination.
  4. First rider across the finish line wins that round.
  5. No jump starts: leaving before the gate drops = automatic disqualification
  6. Riders must stay in their lane — crossing into the other lane = DQ
  7. Full safety gear required (helmet, boots, gloves, goggles)
  8. Rider must exit the turn and cross the finish line in full control of their bike and not crash before crossing the finish line.  Any rider who crashes between the start and finish line will be DQ.
  9. Officials’ decisions are final. AJAX track tape will be across the finish line to easily indicate which rider breaks the plane of the finish first. RF Official will be videoing the finish line.
  10. Have fun and show good sportsmanship — this is all about fun, skill, and bragging rights!  OH and CASH!!!!
